“Art that arises out of the inner landscape and is connected
to our lived experience, illuminates the darkness and heals the soul.” -Daria Halprin
I paint self portraits as a way to understand myself. They assist me greatly in my growth and evolution as a person, and as a woman. In 2002 I painted myself in the guise of the goddess Kali. I later realized, looking back, that each of my self portraits held the energy of a certain archetypal figure that fit the story and mood of the painting and what I was experiencing in my life when I painted it. As well as being cathartic, these portraits help me reveal and integrate who and where I am in my life at a given moment, and what universal forces are playing through me.
